International Conference on Underwater Archaeology - IKUWA 2, Rüschlikon near Zurich, 2004

To mark the 150th anniversary of the discovery of pile dwellings on Lake Zurich, and following the International Conference on Underwater Archaeology (IKUWA) held in 1999 in Sassnitz/Ruegen (Germany), the Swiss Society for Underwater Archaeology (GSU) will organise from 21st to 24th October 2004 in Rüschlikon near Zurich (Switzerland) IKUWA 2.
The IKUWA 2 Conference should show where and how the historical picture has been changed by underwater archaeological investigations in recent decades, and which new investigations under water may be expected to produce particularly important historical evidence.
Themes
Within the overall theme The New View – Underwater Archaeology and the Historical Picture the programme will be divided into three main subjects:
• Settlements
• Evidence of Cult in waters
• Ships and Harbours
The lectures will include overviews on maritime archaeology and also on the archaeology of inland waters – lakes and rivers.
