AAA/AIMA 2005 Conference Announcement

FIRST CIRCULAR
Call for session organisers and workshop proposals for the AustralianArchaeological Association (AAA) and Australian Institute for Maritime Archaeology (AIMA) Joint Conference 2005: The Archaeology of Trade & Exchange (27-30 November 2005).
The AAA/AIMA joint conference 2005 will be hosted by the Western Australian Maritime Museum (Fremantle, West Australia) and Archaeology (University of Western Australia) and held at the new Maritime Museum on Victoria Quay, Fremantle, Western Australia.
The website will be launched soon with registration, program and accommodation details.
The organising team invites session organisers for this joint conference and welcome proposals for workshops (workshops to be held Sunday 27 November).
The conference theme encompasses a broad range of archaeology of historical and prehistoric contexts by both terrestrial and maritime archaeologists.
The conference intends to encourage interdisciplinary links by having several joint sessions on the theme of trade and exchange. We invite proposals from both maritime and terrestrial archaeologists for sessions on the following themes or on other topics:
-- material culture studies of trade and exchange
-- archaeological evidence for social forms of exchange
-- human interactions in coastal contexts-- the archaeology of encounters and contact
-- advances in methods and techniques-- studies in remote sensing-- collaborative research between Indigenous, maritime and historical archaeologists
-- exchanges between museums and archaeologists
