Documents on Soviet fleets' war operations declassified

MOSCOW - The Main Headquarters of the Russian Navy has completely declassified historical documents on the operations of the Soviet Fleets during World War II, Russian Navy Commander Vladimir Kuroyedov said during the meeting with veterans of the Great Patriotic War in Murmansk on Tuesday.

According to him, the publication of these documents is timed to coincide with 60th anniversary of Great Victory.

"The first book dedicated to the operations of the Northern Fleet will be handed to veterans and sailors of the Nortnern Fleet by May 9," Kuroyedov noted. The book about the Baltic Fleet will also be published in May and the book about the Pacific Fleet will be released this fall by then 60th anniversary of the end of the war in the Far East, he said.

Vladimir Kuroyedov and veterans will go to sea on board the heavy missile cruiser Pyotr Veliky on Thursday. They will throw flowers and wreaths to the sea near the Kola Peninsula to commemorate sailors killed during World War II.
